Default 2nd>3rd no upshift when accelerating/other questions

Hey guys my tranny started doing this a couple weeks ago. When i take off from a stop I get the proper shift from 1st to 2nd but it will ride 2nd gear out to about 3500/4000rpm. But the weird thing is, when i let off the throttle it will shift into 3rd, and shift fine from there. The truck is then able to shift fine from stops but not all the time. These symptoms come back once or twice per drive.

I have checked the fluid levels and they are good. Im thinking maybe the tranny filter needs changing? Or maybe something worse??

95 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9

Thanks guys!
-Spence

edit:i omitted my other questions as the search function answered them

A '95 doesn't have a gov. solenoid.

Drop the pan, if everything looks good, I would pull the valve body and go through it.

Before doing all that and making things worse go with small things first.

Try this http://bionicdodge.com/Download/Dodg...Adjustment.pdf

It's a common overlooked thing that causes the issue.

ah good point missed that... still would be a pressure issue right? plugged passage somewhere. Maybe even a plugged filter?... Tv cable should need adustment out of the blue if nothing was done to it and it just started doing this?

If your asking should you adjust the TV cable just because, yes and no. Like anything parts get warn. The adjustment collar(not sure of actual name) is made of plastic. You also have a cable that can be warn down. In the long run those two things can cause the TV cable to need readjustment.

I doubt the TV cable is the problem. But before you do the Bionic dodge adjustment , here is the factory adjustment. Check it first, then try the other. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-in-trans.html

I took it into my trans shop and had them change the filter, fluid and had them adjust the bands and it shifts great now. We also found the t case was leaking fluid so i will have to dive in there and replace those gaskets over the weekend. The pan did have some brass in it so hopefully my stock tranny gives me another 10000 or so. Currently at 156k ;P

Brass = not good. But good luck, hope it lasts a while for you. And what "gaskets" are you talking about on the transfer case? If you mean the tail shaft, replace the snap ring while it's apart. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...ase_saver.html
