Yeah, if you think of it logically it seems strange. But Logic and the EPA don't belong in the same sentence.
Apparently when you tighten emissions, like the switch to ODBII, you have to spend more effort maintaining cat temperature within the ideal, and that takes priority over fuel economy.
The way it was put to me, you can build for economy or you can build for emissions, but not both because the parameters are basically polar opposites. Power is a side effect of the improvements made in modern engines, so you get a bit more power compared to a carb'd 318 or 360.
So after advanced combustion chambers, roller cams, computer control, and fuel injection, the power is up a bit but economy is the same. You can't lean out an ODBII engine for economy like you can with ODBI or no black box, because it generate too much NOx to meet ODBII, and you might throw fuel at the engine to adjust EGTs.

My 02 5.9 had gen I single hole sprayers..
The biggest dif with obdii magnums is either ev1 or ev6.. the newer ones have ev6's.. its my opinion if you interchange this, you'll want to rewire for them.. the adapters are too tricky to trust..
Fit is second.. they obviously gotta fit the bosses..
The resistance is the next big deal.. you'll want that dead nuts right...
Volume is next.. the pcm can adjust a decent amount on either side, and a tuner can cut/add with help from monitoring software AND a wideband a/f gauge..
For a 5.2, the more aggressive cam almost makes the difference up for smaller displacement compared to the 5.9.. its almost a push.. if it works for one, it will for the other too..
The issue with choosing is clouded by bad information all over the web.. some sites say 19#, some 21#, some 22 or 23#.. there is enough bad info out there to make it near impossible to choose, and then you don't know if what you ordered after careful searching is what you're getting..
My red injectors, from the factory, are/were 23.6# or 248cc at 43.5psi.. this, I know, is contradictory to what is in most print.. I'm saying it here as plainly as I can though, those pubs are wrong.. the red injectors are 23.6#/248cc..
I dropped in 24# FMS injectors and curved fuel 5% from the start.. I was within decent perimeter as far as stioch was concerned, but ltft was way high.. the pcm was increasing pulse to compensate.. that is the only place an 'issue' was evident..
There are three injectors I would use if I were to do it again.. other than OE injectors, that is.. I'm mobile right now and can't quote you the p/n on those, but I think I've mentioned them here and over on BD several times..
Research it yourself.. pull your own trigger.. here is a consistency I've found, though, that will aid in your search: instead of flipping through pounds per hour of fuel (# rating) look for cc's per minute.. some sites have a 24# injectors rated for 225cc's, and 21# rated at 230cc's.. this is funny, because the pounds come from the cc's, not the other way around.. this will indicate whether the site you're looking at is FoS or not..
There are charts around that do the conversion for you.. find your injectors, Find the ohms, find the diameter and length, find the volume in cc's, and match them to the 'upgraded' injectors you choose.. then, use software to monitor ltft, and a a/f gauge to sniff the ratio to find of its doing what you want it to do... If it is, toured golden.. if not: get a tuner and fix it..

Oh... And don't ask me to explain the differences in #'s over the years.. if its not pcm scripted, I don't have an explanation.. maybe it is the resistance of the injectors.. I think that may be where the issue aubie faced was hiding.. without those being dead nuts on, the pcm doesn't have to control over the injectors in increments it thinks it does..
Also, I know of three injectors that will work with little effort.. that isn't to say there aren't dozens available I don't know about..

funny that they would use the older single hole injectors when they went to the newer plastic ones....
Mine are 16ohm vs the stock 12 ohm (as are your ford ones I believe drew...) I was told anything between 11 and 16 ohm would work fine with the pcm...
I'll be doing some driving tonight in the truck so I will keep an eye on things but so far they are working fine... no smoke or rich smell or whacked out extreme fuel trim levels that I've had to worry about in the past with the 703 injectors everyone was raving about on the jeep forum... Its funny cause the guys over there still think the 703's will work fine for all year magnums with 39 and 49 psi... although almost every one of them thats tried them have done so on a 95 or older model and a couple have had the same results as I did with running super rich and smoking...

He stated the yellow 20lb ones (710's )actually flow higher than most of the charts indicate as they were measured by ford at 39psi, he said they are a poplular swap for vettes
I also figured they flow and size was "scripted " by the pcm.... its the only thing that makes sense... all the other hardware stayed *******ly the same... except the fuel pressure change in 96...

I just got a email from motor man i told him that i wanted to upgrade my injector to a 4 hole 12ohm injector but keep stock lb rating . he emailed me telling me that he sells the 0280155784 it is identical in every way but is a 4 hole upgrade. It is 21.3lbs @ 43.5 psi 22.6 lbs at 49 psi only 200 bux for a complete set. here is the email i really dont know if i gave him enough info
I sell Bosch 0280155784 as an upgrade EV6 injector. its works very well to replace the 04854181 injectors. the flow rate and plug connecotr is the same and it has 4 holes. Here is a link to them on our website, I can ship tomorrow if the post office is open on Good Friday.

did you happen to look at motormans injector charts? some of his flow ratings like the ones for the 0-280-155-703 injectors are way off from what others report...If I remember correctly he had them listed as 176cc / 16.75lbs injectors instead of 238cc and 22lbs... likely just a typo though.. since they flow higher than stock and flooded my engine
