Default Not Shifting

I got a 97 RAM 1500 5.2 with a just over 171,000.
The problem im having is it wont wont shift up out of first or second.
Any ideas?

Hows the fluid level? (check in neutral, park will give you an inaccurate reading.) TV cable adjustment?

+1. And if those things check out good, need to check governor solenoid and pressure sensor.

fluids are all good. i just took it to a trans shop and they said its in limp mode. i hope its not. i tried to manually go from first to second to neutral then drive and it works again. any ideas on that?

Should have CEL...AND...see previous post related to governor. That will put it in limp.

No check engine or trans. The mechanic said he scanned both and nothing came up. so that means no electrical problems so its gotta be mechanical?

I'm going with Gov solenoid. And it won't always throw a code. Need a good scanner that can check trans codes and pressures. A cheap scanner only does engine/emissions codes.

Of course, on a 97 you can check the codes yourself, and see what comes up.

well i just did the on off on off on test and the only code that popped up was 12 - battery disconnect, which i did earlier today to see if it would just reset itself. well this blows. i was supposed to go up north for a fishing tournament tomorrow
