Default Tranny Problem, help?

Drove the truck down to NC to school with me from NY. Ran fine the whole way but in Virginia when i slowed for some traffic noticed that the truck wasn't getting out of its own way, first gear wasn't grabbing at all. Didn't notice this at all till i was slowed down no noticeable symptoms once your cruising. Stopped and let the truck cool down a bit and first gear grabbed. Ive been driving it down here and its been ok a couple occasional hard shifts in first but the other gears are fine. Tranny fluid is slightly brown which i know is bad but had someone look at it they said doesn't look to bad, they tried to see if the truck was throwing codes but its not communicating with the scanner. any ideas?

is the check valve still in the cooler line up by the radiator? If it is, get rid of it.

What scanner was your friend trying to use?

I assume you have checked the fluid level in the correct manner ? Truck running and in neutral. Parking brake on of course.

Yeah I checked it while it was in Nuetral I know you'll get an inaccurate reading in park, but I'm not sure what kind of scanner it is, local transmission guy that I was referred to he looked at the truck on a Sunday can't ask for much but it couldn't grab any data the plug for the scanner isn't doing anything

Hhhhmmm......

Might try a different scanner, and see what's up..... I think on yours, all communications go thru the CTM..... so, there are a lot of possibilities as to just why it doesn't wanna chat...
