By your description it sounds like you're bouncing off the rev limiter. You may want to try adjusting the TV cable and see if that helps. IIRC there's a how-to in the FAQ forum.

I just turned 51... and I still drive my truck like my firebird.... until, of course, I remember that the truck is NOT the firebird, nor does it handle nearly as well.
