Default crazy shifting with wide open throttle.

My truck generally shifts really nice. However if I stomp on the gas, like when taking off from a toll booth, it'll accelerate like a boss until I ease off the pedal a bit as the RPM maxes out (not redline). At that point it seems to quickly oscillate between gears, causing the truck to lurch/surge (and scare the crap outta my wife ) till I let off the gas completely. Then it continues to drive fine.

Any idea what could cause the erratic shifting at high rpm?

Thanks!

Governor pressure sensor. At large throttle openings, they get 'saturated', and start behaving funny. Borg Warner may have a better piece to replace it.

Thanks for the keywords HeyYou. Searched from there. Looks like I have a chance to fondle my tranny in the near future.

Just to clarify on your comment, are you saying that this saturated behavior is "normal", or does that imply that the gps is on its way out? Should I place this on my urgent TODO list?

An interesting choice of words in any event.

Its pretty standard behavior unfortunately. Not something that has to happen yesterday, but, something that you should consider addressing if you have a heavy foot.

You may want to keep in mind that while it is "oscillating" between gears, it is actually slipping frictions, causing excess wear. And I went on a knock and serve today to for someone that did some fondling....but not a tranny....

OK, I'll add it to the end of the list. It's only happened twice. My foot's not that heavy, but every once in a while the need arises to stomp on it.
