Unhappy Ram trouble

I have a '98 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 in it.

I got in it today and it started and then died. It is turning over now but not starting. Yes, there is gas in it.

I ran the codes from the check engine light blinks and it only blinked 5 then 5 and nothing else, so no codes.

Please help, and ideas?

Do you hear the fuel pump run? Are you getting spark?

I am getting spark but don't think I hear the fuel pump. Is it in the fuel tank?

When you turn the key to start you should hear a buzzing sound from the tank (you can hear it from in the cab w/ door open.) If you can't hear it, you're most likely in for a new pump.

EDIT: nevermind, you posted before I did...What are you getting for pressure? Needs to be around 49psi

have you checked this with a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve?

if it is turning then not turning it can either be fuel or spark. Has to be one of the two.

If ya got spark, then it is either fuel pressure, or cam sensor.

Cam sensor is inside the distributor.

Do you have the service manual? If not, you can download in the FAQ/DIY section. I have not had an issue with cam sensor so I don't know about testing it. The manual will tell you, and maybe someone that knows will post a response. But the FSM and parts manuals will be very helpful to you.

yeah, the cam sensor...it is not an expensive part. if you can change the cap on your dizzy, then you can change that sensor...easy. Although I never have heard of one going out (unless your engine bay catches fire and it gets burned).
