I'm not at 5.1 yet but I'm down to 6 even based on mileage and gallons filled at the pump. New motor, basically new everything. Don't get it. Was getting 9.5 with my ****ty jet chip running 93. Running 87 now.

Looking at the title of this thread, I was hoping it would convince me to get an SCT with whatever tax money I get back because somebody had a great MPG increase with the SCT. Boy was that a letdown! Lol

SCT helps some things, but a magic mileage enhancement it is not. I noticed an improvement in performance. I didn't check mileage before doing work on Ram as I bought it with known (and some unknown) problems. I beileve that in my case it was money well spent.

Hah, you're about the same with me! I get about 250 a tank.
But I've always been running 87.

i sold my 94 2wd 5.9 gas regular cab long box when my boy was born for a 01 ext cab ram. both trucks 3.91 gears 5.9 engine two wheel drive. both trucks same mods duel exhast t chain, iriduim plugs. that 94 i bet got 4mpg better than the 01 and the 94 had way more power as well. the current owner came in for a new starter and said he loves the truck, gets better mpg than his 2000 blazer as long as he easy on the loud petal. any one hear of early gen 2 trucks, obd 1 fuel, power diffence?

idk what i get in the city but the times i drove to michigan and back from fl i was getting 220-250 mile to my half of tank. in the city im looking at 13-15 with normal driving normal acel. under 2k rpms accelerating i usually throw in 20-40 and i dont run her dry usually just under quarter tank i always reset the trip to see wut ill get with the amount of gallons i got i usually write it down so the next time i get gas i can keep track on how many miles i drove to that number of gallons im usually around 14-15 at best with not driving crazy on 87 sct tune and a 11-12 with heavy foot on 87. been only running 87 on 87 gas

i wish there was a instant MPG solver for the ram... i am at 12-13 mpg and that's up or down hill. if i drive the right lane or left lane. it seems to hit the 12 mpg no matter what road i drive on or how slow of fast i go. i only have the flowmaster single cat back kit, k&n filter in stock housing. i did the Hughs airgap intake and then did the SCT tuner. my truck is CA emissions, lucky me. i had the third cat removed. the airgap intake got me from 10 mpg up to the 12-13 mpg. i run the 93 tune, never tired moving the tune around to see if it will change the mpg. i don't drive the truck enough, owned it for 5 years now and onlt put 20,000 miles on it.

I have 3.55's and 33 12.50's and was getting 10.5 mpg consistantly before the SCT. Now I get 11.3 consistantly. Doesn't really seem to matter how I drive it. It's actually a little higher because I didn't correct the speedo for the tires but I go by the trip meter and how many gallons I put in it.

Any how I decided to keep it on 91 tune havnt been in the mood to be a lead foot , but I'm surprised Im getting 230 miles to a tank of gas with 91 tune . 93 tune Im always getting 180 to a tank of gas .

Going from 93 tune to 91 doesn't feel like I'm losing power . But when I put on the 93 from 91 it feels a lot more peppy.

I'm going to try 87 tune with 93 gas and then. 87 tune and 87 gas , I'm just curious if I can get a lot more miles to a tank . I have the 26 gallon tank .

Only thing is its not nearly as peppy on 87 so ill prob take it off if its not Mich of a approvement and keep 91 tu.e installed .

My current mods are 14x3,1.7 harland sharps ,airgap, longtubes and a highflow cat to a cherry bomb extreme . Stock 3.55 gears with the 5.9 .

Been thinking about a new muffler to put before the rear tire . Well see .
what size tires? It seems many people dont understand the gears mean nothing without combining them with a tire size to produce a final drive ratio....3.55 gears and smaller than stock tires can have the same effect as say 33" tires and 4.56 gears...and your engine wont be able to tell tha difference between stock gears and tires and say 35" tires and 4.56 gears...the final ratio is the same one compensates for the other.

I use torque pro and havent had good results with accurate mpg reading...I guess I have to double check my settings...

Another member here "Beeker" recently had a half a dozen dyno runs done both with factory death flash and with different sct tunes ... the highest HP gains that were had were 4hp with the 93 tune and I believe like 20 lbs of torque and the power curve is almost identical....... It has been proven on a dyno that you can get up to 7hp gains just by replacing worn champion plugs with new colder autolite 3923 plugs.(according to a thread I read here posted by silverbullet a few years back)... The plugs would be the smarter choice at under $20...or at least a properly functioning CAI which also averages 3-7 hp gains depending on vehicle and stock setup.

how much money do you save if you spend more on 93 octane vs 87 at the cost of 1 or 2 mpg? thats anothoer question you have to ask... most power mods arent going to do wonders for mpg....
I have newer generation 3 bosch injectors coming in that spray a wide fine mist instead of the straight liguid sqiurt like our old style stock injectors....many on the jeep forums report averages of 2-4mpg increases due to better fuel atomization since the engine wont burn the liquid well and pushes it out the exhaust for the cat to burn... the trick is not to go too big on injector size...(I've read about the fuel supposedly hitting the back of the valve and all being turned to vapor for the engine to use but I'm skeptical on how efficient this really is.. especially since its an abandon technique no longer used by dodge... I guess I'll have to calculate my own results and see what happens...
