Spark Plug Wires

The cheap wires from oreillys are just that. I bought a set and a month later I pulled a wire at the plug and it broke. I took them back and was called a liar since the wires were dirty they couldn't have possibly been a month old. finally they gave me a new set after some argument with the manager. I put them on and a week later the same thing happened. I just went to napa and bought a set of belden wires which I should have done in the first place.

just wanted a real opinion. was thankful to hear the set, to do all at once package deal. i run nothing less then upgrade unless its not getting more power adders. like my neon se doesn't need msd wires or upgraded summits. truck makes more power then stock to the back wheels with 215hp and 295lb/ft. so when i open the air incoming and out going. i want to have better spark also. not going with a msd box til a motor rebuild happens. but was funny to see the beating of a dead horse. saved me from searching. when you give a man a complement no need to get crabby. because someone said some serious things while everybody else is joking around.

I also used those wires... the ones I removed were carquest branded but actually the exact smp wires (SMP makes a lot of auto parts sold under other brands).. they worked fine for the three years I owned the truck until that point but I replaced them while troubleshooting a misfire problem which at this time seems to be from a cracked header...they were not wired via tsb however I did wire the replacements the way the tsb suggests... they were $18 for the set shipped new from ebay btw....and are 7 or 7.5 mm silicone wires...

They were real answers.... the real facts are $25 oem quality smp wires will perform just as well as $80 colorful show wires when installed and routed according to dodges tsb.... Unless you have a high energy ignition system of some kind the high priced wires are not worth the money.. especially since they are supposed to be replaced as a tuneup part... so you throw that money away over and over of you dont replace them when they should be because you paid so much for them and they fail and perform poorly... So how are you ahead?
If its a show truck its usually tricked out and has the performance ignition system to justify them...I for one think its funny to see $80 spark plug wires driving $3 copper spark plugs being driven by a weak stock coil... Its like $2,000 rims on a $1,500 car. Its just my opinion but its a poor use of funds to me... Of course If I was that smart with my money I wouldnt be the third owner of a beat up 16 year old truck either...
I was a kid once too and I spend too much on yellow accel performance coil and wires thinking they would give me more power....they didnt...because unlike the cars of yesteryear stock setups usually deliver enough spark to begin with on stock engines... the funny thing is people replace BAD wires and WORN ignition components twith this stuff and are sold for life that it gives them extra power over new OEM spec stuff....
But if you searched the topic you'll see this gets asked by newbies every other day so most here are sick of talking about it....(Except those who bought expensive ones for bragging rights) thats why the smartass comments come out...
you would be smarter to spend the extra money on a cap and rotor with brass contacts

You know I truly appreciate this in depth assessment. The smart *** comments are entertaining and some of those who made smart *** comments also had (as pointed out) some honest opinions, which were also appreciated. What was said here basically confirmed my suspicions, but I still wanted to ask because I know that different vehicles run better with different brands and types of components. Taking the info I've collected here I sat down and shopped Auto zone, O'reilly, Advance, and Hughes. I've decided to split the shopping between Advance (NTK O2 sensor $25.09), O'reilly (NGK 4291 plugs $1.99 each, Borg Warner coil $33.99), and Hughes Engines, (Taylor Spiro Pro wires $36.95, Accel Cap and Rotor $23.90 which I believe have brass contacts, and of course plenum kit) I opted for the Taylor wires because I've used them in the past with no trouble on other vehicles, but if any of you have used them on a dodge and had issues I'd love to hear from you. I was basically shopping around for decent quality and then going for best price within that quality level.
