Default 1995 5.2 computer/harness on a 1997 5.9 engine

hey all i am new to this site and read alot on here though. anyways i have 1995 1500 had a 5.2l in it but it blew up so i replaced it with a 1997 5.9l engine but it still has the computer and harness from the 1995 on it. it runs ok and i couldnt really find much difference between the two but it seems like the timing is off a little or something air/fuel ratio a little different maybe? idk just seems like it should be running better then it does. any ideas or inputs would be appreciated thanks in advance.

97 is non-egr. Did you transplant your intake manifold to the newer motor?

Also, you are going to be running lean, as the computer is thinking its feeding a smaller motor....... (at least, until you get into closed loop operation.....)

What all did you replace on the new motor??

I might have a '97 5.9 PCM for you. I got it with the 5.9 that I am rebuilding. It's supposed to be a '01 PCM but I've got my doubts, the motor I got is a '97...I need to research the part #.

no, the intake manifold that is on it is the stock 97 one that came with the engine. and i have done nothing to the new 97 engine besides plug/wires and a spectre air intake thats it. nothing was moved from the 95 to the 97 like i said just kept the computer and harness cause i did not have one for the 97. can i get the computer adjusted for the 5.9 or would i be better off finding a new computer and harness?

You need to swap over the 95 intake, and passenger exhaust manifold, so you have the egr to hook up...... while you have it off, you need to fix the plenum. (steel plate on the bottom of the intake, see stickied thread at top of this forum for more info.) See if you can find a PCM out of a 94 or 95 truck that had the 5.9, and the same trans you do. It will plug right in, and just work. Either that, or try and find one online that's right. Stay away from auto computer exchange though... they don't have a real good rep.)

well i dont have the 95 anymore i got rid of it, and the exhaust manifold is the same still its the original 95 manifold so that never got changed out. but the 97 intake manifold looked the same as 95 i made sure of that so i didnt screw myself over... or so i thought. but i was looking into getting a new intake manifold anyways, any ideas on a good one that would work? and what pcm would you recommend for this situation?

Yer kinda stuck being OBDI.... 94 or 95 is basically all you get. There are a selection of aftermarket companies that recondition, or reprogram them, but, that ain't precisely cheap. Finding one in a junkyard would be your best bet.

You need an intake from a 94 or 95 as well. If you don't have the egr valve on the back of the manifold, hooked up and working..... you will have a persistent code, and the engine will run kinda funny.... I think that is the only difference between the manifolds/sensors.

Hughes makes a manifold for the magnum engines, but, its 600 bucks, and I don't know if it has an EGR provision. Ma Mopar also makes the M1 intake, and I believe you can get it with EGR.... have to get the valve, and the tube from exhaust manifold to intake as well..... If you could find the right year kegger in the junkyard, you could prolly pick it up for under 50 bucks.

i found some 5.9 pcm's on like jegs.com and such, but in oreder to run the 5.9 pcm i am going to need to get a new harness right? because the 5.2 pcm has only one plug in while the 5.9 pcm has 3 plug in's. if i need to get a new harness where is a good place to get one of these? or should i just check the junk yard for that also?

dont forget the 95 wwas set up for different injectors and 39psi fuel pressure... you now have injectors that were meant to flow at 49psi but your feeding them 39psi so the engine is running very lean... if you swap manifolds swap injectors with it..
