Help me deside new tire size
There's a guy in the ford forums who has an 02 ford f150.... he went from 33" tires to 35" and his dyno numbers showed he lost 20hp at the rear wheels... (thats 2 inches also..)
Just some food for though...when trying to convince yourself you dont feel it... yet you can feel a 3-4hp boost from a cold air intake or shorty headers?

Dude originally asked if they would fit stock rims (they will), if he would lose fuel mileage (yeah, a little) and if the 285's would rob a noticeable amount of power (they did not in my case). I was actually hoping for a noticeable power increase when I switched back from the 285's to the 265's that are on there now (and the size that was on there when I bought the truck new). I actually remember thinking I might have more power for the same reasons mentioned here. I didn't notice much, if any power gain. I have no problem admitting I put the 285's on there because they looked better. Heck, maybe I gained 20 HP going back to 265's. If I did, I didn't notice. My truck is stock other than a magnaflow cat, so I'm not really trying to convince myself of anything.

... My post wasnt specifically pointed at anyone.. I was commenting on The all too common trend here of people asking something and only hearing the answers they want to.(right or wrong) One of the most common is someone asking about the biggest tires they can fit, then putting them on only to come back here complaining about wheel bearings and "crappy gas mileage" and "how can I get more power" "my trucks lacking" ect... you know you the realistic stuff that gets mentioned in threads like these that no one wants to pay attention too... Someones got to be the bad guy I guess its gonna be me this time.

I have 285/75R16s on mine, they do fit the stock 16x7s but they will rub the control arms, i got mine to quit rubbing with a set of 16x8 w/4" backspace, all with no lift that i can tell. Stock 3.55s and it drives fine for me, braking and acceleration is slower for sure, but its a truck, not a race car lol. I did run my 285s on my 7" wheels an i didnt have problems with it other than it rubbing.

285/75/16 = 32.8x11.2/16 guys.. I saw 315's on stock rims mentioned earlier in this thread and somhow got the width of those mixed up with the 285's so yeah I'll eat crow on some of what I said above...
11.2 inch wide tires fit on 7" rims fine but they will be taller... My tires rubbed less when I had rims with more backspacing ironically...The same tires look much bigger now that I have 9.5" wide rims...but I have 35" tires...

So this is with 265's and a leveling kit ? It looks good
Tires look about right, not to small
What made you think that post was anyone particular I know you and he got what you wanted to hear already I didnt even remember who made the "its only two inches" comment but it helped proved my point along with some tested results that weren't from someone trying to rationalize their decisions. (BTW 8" rims are the narrowest approved tire width for 12.5 and there are reasons for that but who cares right? you only paid attention to the fact that someone was able to run them on 7" rims... wood blocks work for lift kit too..Its the same mentality. 12.5 wide tires on 7" rims? ..yes its been done just like a redneck wooden lift...but its not a smart thing to do.
