Default brake lighs and abs

Son bought a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 that was horribly taken care of. We are trying to get the brake lights to work. Working on the left rear light, I have 4 wires in the light plug.
Black with yellow tracer=Tail lights
Green =Left turn signal
Black =back up lights
Purple =Brake light
This is what I have come up with, I am hoping I am right. We cannot seem to get power to the purple while standing on the brake pedal. The switch under the dash for the brake pedal is working. But power is not making it down to the connector, under the cab, behind the driver front wheel. The fool who owned the truck before us, had a leak of some kind in the rear brakes. So he unhooked the brake lines from the master cylinder. That will be fixed soon.

My questions are, am I right about the colors of the wires and their function. And is it possible that the ABS module under the hood could be messing us up, and stopping the power after the pedal switch? Because of the lines being disconnected.

Look in the FAQ/DIY section and download the free 2001 service manual. You can verify the colors and such.

On a side note, I'm sure the Brake and ABS lights are lit up on the dash correct? If so, they will not go away until you fix the rear brake line.

Got a trailer harness on that truck? If so, have a look at where it splices in.

Yeah there is, and it's a butchered mess. Cutting it out today and starting over at the back. The power isn't getting that far back though.

Brake lamps are two separate circuits. The same filament also does the turn signals. Both pass thru the turns signal switch on the steering column. If you have tilt wheel, the wires get pulled, and can actually be pulled out of the connector... and then maybe even short, and melt various things. Pull the covers off the steering column, and have a look. Power feed from brake switch to turn signal switch is white with tan trace.

Oddly enough, no the ABS and Brake lights aren't on in the dash. Didn't even know there was a problem with the actual brakes till I noticed the brake fluid line hanging there loose.

Then that means the fuse was also most likely removed.
