Default Truck Wont Turn Over

95 Ram 4x4 - 5.2 auto

Engine wont crank over. Clicks once. Starter relay seems fine. Checked for 12volts at starter big wire, all ok.

couple more details

The truck was working fine...then it sat for a couple days. We then had a massive freezing rain storm. It was the morning after this that the truck started then quit within a second or two. Of course I thought the battery. Took it out, trickled it full, put it back in, same thing. One click. All lights seem fine.

Check and see if you are getting 12 volts on the little wire at the starter when you turn the key.

Will do. If there was not a charge there that would indicate what?

Thanks

Bad relay. You could try just swapping the starter relay, with the horn relay, see what happens.

I did try that yesterday. Nothing. If i jumped the relay contact points 30 and 87 the control box would click.

On the starter relay? Did you get a click from the starter itself??

If swapping relays doesn't make a difference, verify that you are getting power on that little wire at the starter. (sounds like you are....) If you got power there, starter solenoid is bad. (just replace the starter.... easier.)

If you have good power at the fat wire on the starter, and greater than nine volts on the little wire when you turn the key, everything is working as it should, except, of course, the starter.
