manual to auto conversion?
i have a 99 ram with a manual trans and im startin to get tired of having to shift in traffic everyday. i was wondering if they make a better aftermarket auto trans that will bolt up and im also wondering what else i would need to make it work and if yall think it would be a good idea?
Will need to change PCM and add wiring to tranny, steering column.....and most likely tons of other stuff. A Viper tranny form PATC would be the best bet. This will probably cost more than the value of the truck, but that's your call. May be cheaper to swap trucks.
there's been a million people ask how to convert an auto to a manual, but this is the first ever to suggest removing a manual.
better idea - sell the manual to one of those million people for a high price, then buy one with an auto trans (which will probably need replacing).

you could probably get a 46rh and one of those overdrive/lockup torque converter control kits and have the transmission work without having to replace computer and wiring harness. you could get a proper auto steering column or if you are a good fabricator you could get creative with the hole that would already be in the floor.
I have no constructive input to add to this other than a question, is it economical enough to chop up your truck for a different trans. I don't like autos that much and completely hate my auto but I'm not sure if it's worth chopping up the truck or the money I'd invest to swap it
