Unhappy Dodge wont start!!!

So Im having trouble with my Dodge 1500 Ram Sport, I'll give you guys the history. it was making a hissing sound, like it was sucking a lot of air. Then it wouldnt start thought it was the battery swaped batteries and still no start. It would crank but it wouldnt fire up. Finally after 20 min of just holding the ignition forward it fired and ran and didnt have anymore problems. I was told to change the plugs, distributor, and rotor so i did. Now it wont start again, the truck has been sitting for a while due to tranny rebuild. It wants to start but just wont. I changed the crankshaft position sensor and the idle air control valve, and still wont turn over. Please help!

Check fuel pressure.

Did a tranny? Might wanna pull out the crankshaft position sensor, and see if it is damaged. It is frequently a victim of trans/engine swaps.

Make sure you got gas in the tank...

If it was still hissing when you got it to fire up last time, you've got a vacuum leak. If it's big enough you won't get the truck to start. Check the lines at the intake.

If you're not getting good spark you can also test the plug wires for spark and the coil to make sure it's a strong enough spark.

Not to sure what my fuel pressure is exactly but it got fuel pressure. I read on this forum that the hissing sound could be my Idle control sensor, which is mounted to the back of the throttle body, so i replaced it. It was very dirty due to Texas ranch dirt, then replaced the TPS which mounted on the side because i got a code for that one......NOW I'm getting a camshaft sensor malfunction!!!! SOOOOOOO i have to get a new distributor because the sensor does not come separate. I hope thats the last sensor i have to replace...... thanks to all for the sugestions

Umm, no, you don't need a new distributor. DO NOT REMOVE IT, if it isn't already too late!
The cam sensor is available and has different names , pick up coil is one of them.

And add ALL the damn info about your truck to your sig AND your profile.

I'd like to help with the right part #'s but that's hard without knowing what year the thing is. And don't just post what year it is, add to your info as suggested. This is the cam sensor for a 2000. Available just about at any parts store.

To check your fuel pressure, Your gas line should be underneath the hood near the air cleaner if i recall, it looks like a valve stem from a tire, go in, turn the key, (dont start it but the click before cranking) if you hear a humming noise and then a click, your fuel pump is working, let it pump, step out and press in the stemp, if gas sprays out hard, you've got good fuel pressure. if it doesn't then, inspect your lines. Stand back when doing it! i got a mouth full of gas because of this. haha.

You need to actually test the fuel pressure. 20psi will squirt out pretty far, but will not make truck run correcctly. Get one of these or borrow from parts store -

You need 45 to 50 psi.

Wrong! And a very bad idea to do it that way.
