Default Check engine light after fuel top up

I wish I have a code reader for this one. Any idea why my check engine light come on after everytime I stop at the gas station. Evap. system maybe??

check your gas cap.

do the ignition key trick.
on - off - on - off - on
read the codes in the odometer window.

I tought that the on-off trick was for the Dakotas only, good to know.
As for the gas cap it's on tight for sure, so unless it's craked ... I'll check it closely.

I had to buy a new cap when I got my truck. I kept getting evap codes with it also, even though it was new. I took a little vacuum grease and coated the gasket and the edge of the filler neck where the gasket meets. Since I've done that (about 1 year ago) I havent had it come back. You could also use petrolium jelly (vasiline). Just smear a thin coat, no gobs.

That is a real good advice right there, thanks man, I will give it a try right after the on/off trick.

On-Off trick is not working on my truck, I tried many times and my buddy too.

Try again. It should work on a 99. If not, maybe you have an early 99 late 98. This will be the first time I've seen it not work on a 99.
