Question tranny line replacement

Hi guys, the inspection station told me i need to replace my line that has the check valve. i see that i could get the stuff to delete the valve and change the hose but id like to just buy the whole line.(aftermarket of coarse). The problem is i dont know what one to get. Is the one with the valve the radiator feed or the return line? Is there anyother things i should do as preventative work. I have 146,000. and not sure if the pan has ever been dropped. it shifts fine and id like to keep it that way.Iv seen lines called left and right and iv seen them labled as feed and return. i dont know what i neeed. thanks guys.

It'd be the feed or hot line -- and you do not want a check valve at all. The hot ticket is to ****** that nasty thing out and plumb a remote filter in its place. That way you get a check valve to prevent converter drainback, one that's just not going to plug up and eat your transmission, and that will make routine (in the pan) filter replacements a thing of the past. Just change out the remote every couple of years and do the fluid changes on schedule.

It's probably a good time for a band adjustment -- that's supposed to be done no later than 100,000 miles on the Light Duty Schedule A schedule, sooner/more often on the tougher schedules.

Thanks. Is the band adjustment complicated? Im pretty good with tools but have never tried to adjust anything on a tranny. Do you know how many qts it takes when dropping the pan to change the filter? I have to use mopar fluid correct? The inline filter is a great idea. Where can i get one?

The band adjustment's pretty straightforward. Grab the factory service manual out of the FAQ/DIY section -- it's detailed in there. Remember, though: It's inch-pounds!

It's usually about four to five quarts that falls out when you drop the pan. The fluid is ATF+4, any reputable brand as long as it's ATF+4.

I got my remote filter along with my transmission from these guys. (It's a good ways down on that page. Scroll for about half an hour...) You can get 'em from lots of places, though. Summit Racing has 'em, Jegs has 'em, could be your local auto parts store has or will order one for you. Just be darn sure to get the flow direction correct or you'll quickly overheat that transmission when the check valve is forced closed. If you're in the correct line, it's from the transmission, to the filter, then on to the cooler in the radiator.

I can't think of better justification, myself. For want of a torque wrench a transmission might be lost. That's an easy one to figure out!

The Z code would be your engine, I think. In your '99 you have a 46RE -- just keep on scrolling down in that PDF, you'll find it.

It's not a Z code motor if it's a 1500.

Several things....

1. Putting your vehicle info in your signature would REALLY be helpful to us.....

2. Where are you?

3. What kind of inspection checks transmission cooling lines? Unless you are "emitting" trans fluid from that line......what are they looking for? Why would it need replacing?

4. And +howevere many on deleting check valve......
