Default Bank 1 sensor 2 question

Ok heres what I have going. I have a 97 ram 5.9 headers no cat , glass packs duels . I have the 1st sensor about 2 1/2 feet before the second. I did the defouler trick on the second 02 . I'm still getting the cel bank 1 sensor 2 thing any ideas . Both 02 sensors are brand new . Last weekend new. Is it possible I got a bad sensor ? Also am I suppose to do the defouler trick on the front one? I was told at auto zone I had 2 pre cat and one after cat sensor.. I called dodge gave them my vin and he said It only can with the 2. Any help ...Thanks Ron

The books may show two pre-cat sensors, but, the book also has to account for california emissions......

You only want to do the non-fouler trick on the rear O2 sensor. You WANT the front O2 to get accurate readings.

What brand O2 sensors did you get?

what CEL code number are you getting ?

different brand o2 sensors should not cause a problem.

Yeah, but a slow reacting bosch in front may skew the whole thing......

Not to mention the negative battery cable was most likely not disconnected before replacing the o2's.

I did remove the neg cable and reset the pcm twice both times the cel came back on .I will have to get it rechecked as I do not remember the code . The guy just told me bank one sensor 2 and that it was running lean. Will running both sensors as bosh help?

^probably not.

bank 1, sensor 1 lean would be indicative of a vac leak larger than the pcm's ability to adjust richer.

bank 1, sensor 2 lean (as you report) doesn't make any sense to me.

get the codes and report back. don't let people interpret them.

If a rear sensor is not reading in most cases, you get something such as cat efficiency error. Rich or lean is usually related to upstream O2......usually....
