I'm attempting to change my brake pads for the first time on my dodge. What size tools will I need to remove the caliper from the rotor? How can I inspect my rotors? I'm gonna get the duralast pads (ceramic). I just was curious to know because once I have the wheels off I don't wanna put it back on and go to the store if I don't have the correct size bit. Thanks alot

 

No special tools really required. Basic socket and end wrenches.

Rotors should have the minimum thickness stamped on it. I can't remember off the top of my head. Service manual has specs and parts store has the specs also. If rotors are grooved, they need turned (provided they are still thick enough) or replaced. Not very expensive nowadays.

 

I just replaced my rotors because they ate one whole pad off on the drivers side and looked pretty thin.

But just basic sockets are needed.

 

the only thing i think you need to unbolt is the lug nuts and caliper pins.

i don't know what size the caliper pins are. maybe a hex bolt? or maybe an inside hex key? its probably metric.

if in doubt, remove one wheel and check.

 

Caliper bolts on mine were hex head. I think 14mm. Check service manual to be sure....it's in there.

 

You'd be better off getting the 50/50 ceramics. Full ceramic pads are overkill for anything except race cars.

 

Anyone curious to know whether or not the OP's truck is a 4wd or 2wd, or 1500 or 2500?

 

The rotor did not eat your pad. A stuck piston or slide pins on the caliper did.
