engine flush???
Ok so I've read tons of threads and I keep seeing people say use ATF tranny fluid, kerosine, diesel, or the stuff from the auto store. What's yalls opinion? And have y'all ever used it before and how well did it work?
Drop the pan, or pop a valve cover, and have a look. Only do it if it needs it.
Change the oil immediately after; you might even consider putting 5 quarts of 99 cent crapo oil in first (but after the flush into whatever's in there now), run it 50 light duty miles or a half hour hour idling in the yard, then change to your regular oil.
Personally, I never do it. Maybe some Techron or SeaFoam in the gas if I'm worried about top end deposits, but that's rare too. Gasoline is a pretty good solvent all by itself.
If you've been doing regular oil changes with a reasonable interval you don't need it. If you've been using synthetic with a reasonable interval you definitely don't need it. If you are going to switch to synthetic just do that, it will clean up those deposits over the next while. It's only of possible value to an engine that's seen abusive oil regimens in my opinion.

i recommend a commercial product like gunk engine flush. i figure that its actually been tested in a lab, and won't do any damage. follow the instructions exactly. its cheap, something like $4-5/quart at walmart.
i used it several years ago. instructions say to add a quart to your oil and IDLE the engine for 5 minutes, then change the oil and filter. i didn't removeany covers afterward to assess how well it did, but i started out with some fairly clean oil and drained out some real crap.
i've used ATF and kerosene a long time ago, but for $5, its not that much more and you get something thats quick and easy.

Don't ever flush your motor with anything, you run the risk of clogging your oil pick up screen with crap....Just change the oil every 2000K or so, do it gradually.
Google engine flush....

Just as a point of reference and not a recommendation: I've used ATF and diesel (one or the other) at various times in the past, and cleaned out some severely filthy engines in which all of the lifters clattered, ending up with clean, quiet engines that ran well for many years afterward.
If it's not severely filthy and in need of immediate action, just get in the habit of running four quarts engine oil and one quart Marvel Mystery Oil. It'll clean things up just fine over time.

Many people use "el cheapo" oil, go for a 1 hour drive then do a drain/refill/filter change. Then you can go a year changing the oil every 3 K miles or 3 months (WHichever comes first) and you will be squeaky clean.
