My truck has 208,000 miles on it. All original, original owner. Years ago the steering got "loose", so I tightened the set screw on the steering box. It worked, for awhile, but now I tightened it again but the steering is just too heavy now. Guess my steering box is just worn out. Is this what I should replace it with??

I don't see any play in the steering shafts or anywhere else. Should I order the Borgensen shaft's anyway? I want this truck to handle like new, or even better than new. What else do I need to do? I already have the track bar rebuild kit in it from Luke's Link.

have some one slowly turn the wheel back and forth while your under the front end...thats how I finally found all the sources for my steering slop...

 

The Borgeson is a nice unit also, as is the Redhead.

 

Can anyone assure me 100% that the above Borgeson Unit (the link in the 1st post) will work on a 1500? The web page is for diesel trucks. I would like to order it tonight (along with the Borgeson steering shafts), but I want to be certain it is for all 2nd gen Ram's, not just 3/4 ton's, and ofcourse they are currently closed for the evening so I can't call there, and I can't order it during daytime hours. Anyone???

Unlike the Borgeson remanufactured unit that is available for '89-'93 customers, this steering box offered for '94-'02 trucks is a replacement unit. The original box was engineered in the 1960s, called a Series 700, and was made by Delphi. The replacement unit is also made by Delphi, but it was designed in the 2000s and is called a Series 600.

 

Yes, I got that but the web page is parts and accessories for diesel trucks. They aren't catering to the half-ton market. I want to be 100% sure this will work I my 1500. I'm assuming it will, but can anyone here confirm it will (along with the Borgeson steereing shafts)?

Wow!!! This Borgeson box and shaft look to be very high quality. Likely going to do the install this week. I know these 2nd Gen Rams require Power Steering Fluid as opposed to ATF, but what is a good, recommended brand? Mopar, Prestone, etc?

I would like to put Amsoil PSF in it, but my dealer is over an hours drive from here, so I'll replace the current fluid with whatever you guys recommend, then probably change again to Amsoil in fall time. I'm in Canada so I like the Amsoil synthetic for winter. But what should I use for the mean time?
