hey i got a 97 ram 5.2L and im puting 35 on it i have 33 but im looking for new gearing i went to a gear shop they priced me at 2g for 4.88 i have a D44 front and a chrysler 9.25 rear just woundering is there any trucks that came stock with this gearing so i can go to a junk yard and grab some gears

No, lowest from factory was 3.92. And you can get gears for $280 per axle and install them yourself if you have the tools and time

Off Road edition trucks came with 4.10's.... but, that isn't gonna help ya much. (and good luck finding a set...) 2 grand is out of line, by about 500 bucks..... shop for a different shop.

 

I had a 4wheel shop replace my gears in my jeep and replace my rotors and pads for 1,200 bucks.... but that was like 10 years ago... it seems the low end for this is arount $1,500 and I've seen some here quote up to $2,200 bucks.... I guess it would also be a good time to put a locker in or have the clutch pack rebuilt in the factory LSD if you have one...

 

so theres offroad edition rams ? and would a 4.10 be worth the swap or should i just go 4.88 max tire size im goin on these diffs are 35 then im doin a diff swap so what do u guys thing would be a good gear and i have a new yukon locker

 

If you already have a yukon locker you need to find out how big of a ring gear it can take max. If we are talking about the 9.25 rear then there is nothing to worry about. If you are talking about the Dana 44 front end it will either take 4.10 and down, of 4.56 and up.

If you are going with 35's then most recommend 4.56's, but 4.88's would make it even more fun off road.

 

If thats surrey bc that your from, I'm right across the border in bellingham and was calling around today getting quotes for getting 4.56 installed. Most were 1800-2000. Randys ring and pinion in everett was 1900. Thought I'd be a little cheaper myself too.

 

ya i dont wanna spend that much for some thing that wont last very long

 

so i was talking to my friend about gearing and he dosnt get why i need any lighter he said that running lower gearing will get worse fuel economy
i run 3.55 with 33 inch tires and i feel like the trucks sluggish i think that i might get better fuel economy because i wont have to press the pedal as hard to get up to speed what do u guys thing

 

Rule of thumb with gears is you'll gain fuel economy in city/town driving conditions and lose on the highway.

BTW, 2G is ridiculously high. I mean that's 4 Wheel Parts high. My local 4x4 shop charges $600 per axle for ring/pinion, labor and fluids (or at least did the last time I sent someone there about two years ago).
