Default engine question

So I'm shopping for a new engine well new to me. And I came across a 69 318. I was told I could put my heads and intake on it and all the electronics do the bolt on upgrades and swap out to a roller cam and squeeze close to 400hp out of it. Is this true? I tried doings search and couldn't find anything.

Also could I bolt the 360 to the transmission I have now?

I'm still learning this v8 stuff I was always a Nissan guy before I could afford the truck I wanted and finally got.

I don''t think Magnum heads will work on LA block. And magnum heads are not the best.

the engine wouldn't bolt in anyway.different motor mounts. i am pretty sure it is possible to make magnum heads fit a la engine but it is not worth the time and effort and money you would have to spend on custom parts.

Umm I'm still confused...is it a 318 or a 360? Lol. Either way I'd say it's a no-go.

NO-go. you need a 94-01.

the 94-95 is OBD-1, so you need to swap your intake and all sensors over to anything that's not an exact match.

360 will drop right in, and bolt right up. Even the sensor locations are the same. (provided the engines are the same year....... some changes were made from 97 to 98) You will need to do something about the PCM though, otherwise, in open loop, you will run a bit lean.

Isn't there something about the crank balance between the 5.2 and 5.9?

True that. On the 94-95 motors, balance weights for 360 were on the torque converter, 96 and on, they were on the flexplate. 318 was internally balanced, so, just doesn't matter. Just need to pay attention to what year the motor is.

if i got a 360 pcm would it connect to the harness the same?
also with the balancing of the motor if i get a 94-95 i would have to make sur i got the flex plate with it and if its newer than that then should i get the tranny with it as well?

also would it be more benificial to me to just rebuild the motor than to just swap it out?

im working with a 500 dollar budget and a motor that is slowly starting to produce noise and lose oil pressure so im on borrowed time at the moment.
