I like the allen head cap screws because it makes getting the hard to reach fasteners in and out easier by using a ball end hex socket or t-handle wrench.

I've done the same thing on the last several vehicles I've owned and never suffered another leaky valve cover gasket on any of them.
makes perfect sense. I think i will go to Ace and get some new hardware. Is that where you got yours, or do you have a locak bolt and fastener store in your town? I am guessing you are using blue threadlocker...I have that as well.

I will also take a pic of the condition of the valvetrain undernesth to see if my frequent oil changes is keeping everything squeaky clean. I don't use risolene, just synthetic and I use lucas additive in the warm months.

As for the gaskets, the consensus is the rubber gaskets. Now that I think of it, I don't think the edelbrock gaskets are cork, I think they are fiber. They look like cork, but not the color. They are more of a gray color. I will try out what I already have on hand, and if I need to change them out then I will spend the extra cash.

OE gaskets are rubber. Rubber/silicone FTW.

I've usually picked up the cap screws at the auto parts store, but any old place that sells them will do. And yes, it's the blue threadlocker you'd want.

If you're using the factory spark plug wire looms they'll have to go away, which is the only potential downside that comes to mind. I've always used aftermarket looms with this little mod.

I have found an excellent source for fasteners. www.autobodytoolmart.com

Nearly every kind of automotive fastener, and decent prices.

Default This is a suck.

Just a quick update: The high zoot gasket when it finally arrived is for LA heads, not Magnums. Five holes instead of ten. Sucks but not in a good way. So here I am with 20 fastener sets and no ultimate reality gasket to go with them.

Has anyone managed to find a nice thick durable valve cover gasket for one of these critters? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

If you have a problem, replace the gaskets with this part #. Same #'s just has a dash 1 at the end. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...RPGASKAMS_____

I put the grey Edelbrock valvecover gaskets on mine 900 miles ago. So far no complaints...

Found loose bolts when I pulled my intake off the other day. I guess I gotta go around and check my bolts (250K mi) like my old Harley
