Default Rubber or Cork gaskets for valvecovers?

Well, I have a leak in my drivers side valvecover (back). It is not very bad, but who likes leaks!!

I have a set of edelbrock gaskets from when I did the plenum and roller rocker swap, but then noticed the stockers were reusable. The edelbrocks are, thick and beefy, they look nice.

But are the rubber gaskets better? Should I go to the dealership and order a set?

I actually like cork gaskets.

the rubber felpro's are way better than cork.
cork hardens over time, and always begins to leak.

Did you happen to check the bolt tightness first? I noticed I had a driver's side leak for a while, and finally yesterday went to install my new gaskets. Come to find out, nearly all of the bolts were loose, some not even finger tight. I'm surprised the cover didn't fall off. I retorqued them all down including the passenger side (loose as well).
Drove the truck around a good bit for work and errands yesterday and today with absolutely no leaks.

I have seen far too many with the cover bolts loosening. But I really like the fel pro rubber gaskets. Just do not overtighten the bolts and bend the edge of cover.

I haven't checked the tightness yet! I meant to do that but I had to help my wife (New baby).

I am thinking they need to be retorqued. I have the mopar performance valvecovers, and those things are THICK castings. I don't think I could bend them i I did a chinup on them.

THey are probably loose. THe reason I say that is because I had a loose header bolt...and by loose, it was not there...completely fell off (Replaced it). If a header bolt could rattle off, then the valvecovers are probably suspect.

THANKS!

It's funny you should bring up valve cover gaskets. I'm waiting for NAPA to get me a pair of their highest zoot fiber/rubber gaskets right now. Then I'm going to pick up enough allen head cap screws to go all around, some helical spring lock washers and flat washers, and use thread locker to keep them all in place. I like the allen head cap screws because it makes getting the hard to reach fasteners in and out easier by using a ball end hex socket or t-handle wrench.

I've done the same thing on the last several vehicles I've owned and never suffered another leaky valve cover gasket on any of them.
