5.2L Ram Motor In Dakota?
In 98, the instrument cluster changed, and also how the PCM communicated with it, Dodge introduced the "Central Timer Module".... basically, you have a little network in your truck, and the CTM is the 'hub'. Earlier models don't have that... which makes them MUCH easier to retrofit.
Are we sure there were no half-years for this CTM? I'm still shocked they did their math correctly (or took a loss) during the OBDII upgrade on January 1st 1996...
To summarize:
1995- OBD1
1996- OBD2
1997- OBD2 + more control over engine performance
1998- OBD2 + more control over engine performance & CTF network

I need someone to post a picture of their OBDII plug and also what to look for (#s etc.) to know if it has the CTM network or not.

CTM may have started in 98.5.... but, I am not 100% sure on that. 96 and 97 trucks won't have it. Basically, if it has the digital odometer, it's gonna be complicated. Mechanical odometer, and you should be golden.
Good call; if I find a 98' I will check for a mechanical odometer!
If it comes down to a 95.5 I will check for OBDII, assuming the following information below is correct for Dakotas:
OBD1

OBD2:

Now that I am in a position to do some performance upgrades to my Dak, I'm not really sure what and where I can go to do What I would like to do, maybe more HP Torque, upgrade Trans and Rear axle.
Any ideas would be great, truck has 140k on it. ( purchased new with 147 miles, I am only owner )
Please email me derekrtracey@yahoo.com for help.
Thanks.
I own a '97 Dakota with a 5.2L Automatic. Build date is 04/15/97. It has the digital odometer. I new someone that replaced his '97 PCM with a '96 PCM, he gained horsepower and torque, but the Dash Cluster was inoperable.

So much for the title...but now I'm really thinking if I'm going to do this I might as well make it a 360. Gas was a factor but if I was light footed I don't think there is much of a difference at all between a 318 and 360....it's probably just when stepped on or driven over 60mph?
If I kept all the regular 318 swap items in mind, what else am I branching into here? It's the same from the intake up correct? I can still use a 318 PCM/intake/everything? Block still bolts up like a 318? NV-3500 will fit with a 3.9/5.2 bell housing?

Squareish is OBDI, rounded is OBDII.
