Default Shorty Headers, Which Ypipe...

Hey guys,
The Ypipes I see on the internet seem to be all for the the longtube headers. I want to get shorty headers to keep my low end torque but I cant find the correct Ypipe that pairs up with them. I am interested in the pacesetter shorty headers and I would like to find a ypipe that looks like the stock one (because im getting shortys) but is 2.5" or 3" thick. any hep would be great. Thanks guys.

btw a 96 doesnt have a "y pipe" we have a "two into one cat" instead with the pipes that attach to the headers as part of the cat....
I paired mine up to the magnaflow 23285 high flow setup.... (about $184 shipped) plus about $160 for the better stainless headers shipped...(or you could pay more for the steel pacesetters and replace them when they rust out like I did..)

1996 Edelbrock headers (Ti Tec ceramic coated) cost about 490 for the headers AND the steel pipes that "bolt" to the double in of the 1996 cats. I had them on my 1996.

If you get ebay headers AND THEN get the steep pipes to plumb to your cat, you will end up paying more than 490 because you will need to get an exhaust shop to fab up (weld and install) a set for you. That will be about 300 bucks.

Just get the edelbrock headers. They come with everything for the 1996.

FWIW, I can name much more mods that you can do that are less than 500 bucks and will get you more power.

Or, for 500 bucks, I would do this:
1. SCT from hemifever (265)
2. K&N/Spectre air filter (45 bucks)
3. Plenum kit (140)

Then I would get headers if you want more.

That assumption is Wrong.....
I recently installed the BOLT ON magnaflow system to the bolt on headers and have no leaks.....total cost.....$255.00 with exhaust clamps and grade 5 header bolts... went together in about three hrs total with removing the old stuff...and it was a first time job for me ... (much more reasonable than the top of the line expensive and unnecessary setup suggested above)
the other advantage to my setup is your replacing the old stock cat with a stainless high flow one and the pipe that goes to the muffler...

I'd like to know how a plenum kit gains hp over a stock setup? I love how everyone just assumes stuff here.... his stock gasket might be fine...

I'd go with 1.7 roller rockers myself....
sct only gains about 4-7 hp and 20lbs of torque with the 93 tune UNLESS you pay extra for a custom tune...

I have a CAI with a spectre air filter...its nice but I honestly noticed no gains over the 14x3 that was on it when I bought it except its not as loud.
And BTW,, Before more assuming goes on here, The headers I linked are not the same as the other ebay headers... the flanges are totally different and they lined up perfect to the exhaust after removing the pacesetters...
just compare the flanges and look closely around the area where the bolt holes are and where they are in relationship to the edges of the flanges and you will see what I mean...

Isn't 4-7 hp and 20 lbs of torque actually pretty good in the real world (compared to k&n's world where you get 20 hp with a cloth filter)

Augie, I can see this getting old for you real fast. Could you maybe dig up the sellers name and refer to the headers that way (like "billybob eBay headers"). Going to save you some grief, and not just for today.

I know my first choice wouldn't be that way either ... don't want to drive up the demand which generates greedy pricing and I'm pretty sure the seller is aware of your references, considering the asking prices and the timeline of your posts here. I've seen it happen on eBay with other forums too. But really in the end it usually works out better if you just mention the seller. He could also swap out the actual supplier too, but at least then you could call 'em "old style" or something.

It's up to you but I know having to make some kind of disclaimer or explanation every time you mention them is going to drive you nuts, eventually. There's a right way and a wrong way to shop on eBay; not sure if it's your job to teach everyone that.

Alternatively you could just stop referring them to as eBay headers and maybe just "pacesetter clones" or something. You put together a great thread on it, don't see how it's your job to do anything else. There is a search function around here somewhere.

Your right, and I normally do actually ... if you look in my signature I refer to them as eworld headers as the seller is eworldracing.... the link I posted should have contained links to the actual ebay sellers auctions as well... he has raised the price like $40 it seems since posting the comparison thread but he still had some auctions with a lower buy it now price.

And yeah its doesnt seem to matter how many differences I point out some just dont seem to get how ebay works and I believe they look at it as a store where the products are all the same.. They claim they bought the same headers and when they point out they had the problems associated with many of the other ebay generic headers I ask where they bought them and get the "I dont remember"... My thoughts? Then dont claim to have the same thing! Its just misinformation...

Its not bad but for $350 you can find other ways to get more power for less.
Like roller rockers which average 14hp or an electric fan setup which can gain you the same 4-7 hp for a $50 investment from the junkyard... I removed the 47mm restriction above my throttle body butterflies and ground away the air horns for like $5 which was the cost of the dremel bit kit.... that allows better intake airflow...
and yes headers and a better flowing cat converter can do some good too... ceramic coated are very nice but the pre coated ones seem to be marked way up for these trucks... I have a ceramic coated header along with the complete exhaust on my vw I got for like $140 shipped... you can buy the cermaic coating and have it done for less than buying them done ... I used "eastwood" internal header coating which coats the inside of the headers and so far appears to be working as my discoloration from the heat is minimal... (and it was $24 shipped)

Currently I'm still trying to find the perfect size generation 3 injectors to swap into my truck...going to be trying bosch "0280155712" ones later today as I found they are actually 16ohms and not the 2.1 ohms listed on witch hunter...
when I do confirm the right replacement for the 96-99 magnums it can also be a cheap upgrade whether it be a junkyard swap or buying them rebuilt..
