better than 16.5 mpg with a 5.9?....not gonna happen your already well above the norm... especially for under $25... For your best use of that $25 I suggest putting it in the tank... $25 worth of gas will get you farther than anything else....

I'd say the 50mm TB mod but that wont get you any real gas mileage... maybe take the 180 state out and go back to 195 since the pcm is designed to run on the rich side until in reaches full temp... others here who have done testing with both say the 195 is better for mpg and the 180 is better for power... they are often two opposite goals...(That being said I noticed no mpg difference between the two myself)

he could also remove the 47mm bottleneck above the stock 50mm hole at the butterflies..making it a true 50mm throttlebody...I did this for like 8 bucks with the cost of the dremel bits... some people pay a hell of a lot more for someone like fastman to do it for them... but it will allow more airflow which means more fuel will be consumed... it could go either way as far as mpg savings...

Wasn't that the original purpose of the bench seat?

You need to quit drinking the 180º thermostat Kool-Aid. Installing one will not cure all of the vehicle's engine woes, cure athlete's foot, or balance the federal deficit.
ah thanks VW. i think you helped state what I previously couldnt. i felt stupid when i got the 195 put back in and it ran fine. Granted initially after getting up to temp it hits 210 then drops and stays constant at 200. Prob just initial time of coolant being allowed to flow and a couple second delay until it hits.
