engine temp after E-fan conversion
Hey guys, I did an efan conversion recently and am pretty happy with it so far. I noticed the fans never need to kick in, which is weird. I let it idle in place for over an hour & the temp gauge never exceeded 1/3 from the left of the gauge. I even tried driving in sluggishly slow stop & go traffic for over an hour & they still did not need to kick in. The splice I did in my a/c clutch wires is also not working and I noticed that when I unplugged the connector with the engine on & a/c on, there is no voltage to either wire there. Keep in mind, I did not buy a kit. I followed a template that I posted here after finding at least 4 months ago - I just now got around to using it. I used the 2 spare fans from a 1996 Bonneville I used to own. I replaced motor from the smaller 1 & I also have a switch in the dashboard that does work great. I cut part of each side of the original shroud off to mount my coolant reservoir & washer fluid tanks to, then turned them to the side so those 2 wedges are tucked into the sides of the radiator. I am immensely pleased with how much more space there is in the engine bay. I could almost stand in there & have lunch. I will find a way to post some pics tomorrow. I did use a piece that required cutting into the upper hose, made of aluminum with a temp sensor screwed into it. I also have each fan independently fused for safety. So, any ideas on why my truck never gets warm enough to kick in the fans? I know it sounds a little silly, but I am concerned that the gauge may be off but it never showed signs of that before.
If you have a 180* thermostat this doesn't surprise me. My '95 with a 195* stat never hits over about 202*, with no fans installed at all. I still plan to install electric fans, but I haven't overheated, or even gotten close.

You have a very efficient cooling system...... I would be tempted to verify accuracy of the gauge with an IR thermometer, or something similar..... and if it checks out, smile, and be happy.
