Where ya at? There is a guy here that I would trust.... but, I'm in michigan.....

You need some pretty specialized tools to do gears. Download the service manual that's close to your year truck from the faq section here, and read thru the procedure...... some of the specs are measured in thousandths of an inch, so, you need to know how to use precision measuring tools as well.....

I had to have mine redone because whomever put the 4.56 gears in didnt do it right... my whine was only on decelleration and was fixed with new pinion bearings, not gears... but I wouldnt do it yourself without experienced help...or you may end up with the same problem like your dad... and honestly if your going to change them at least go with 3.92 they will work with stock or slightly bigger tires... you may find you dont even need gears at this point..

Okay thanks. That helps a bunch. Ill probably go and get and esimate and an idea of what is wrong with it for sure. If it is a bearing or gears too.
