headlight harness upgrade
Have any of you guys used the headlight harness upgrade that is sold by LMC truck? It says it wires them to the alternator directly & makes them brighter. I am very curious since it is about $30.
I have it, works really good, and you can't beat the price. I've got the power wires for the headlights hooked up to the battery terminal though, not the alternator.
Only issue I have with it really is the wiring to the passenger side headlight. It's in a nice casing and all, but it's too short to really run it any other way than right over the fan shroud. I didn't like it just sitting there so I picked up some cable clamps (like what you would use to secure a wire or cable to a wall) and some self tapping screws. And secured the harness to the shroud so it won't move around. Makes for a clean looking install.
I don't know about making your lights brighter (I mean, with a relay providing the switching rather than the headlight switch it could be less resistance so a brighter light) but it keeps my headlight switch and pigtail on the back from melting and bursting into flames, which I like very much.

i don't know exactly what kit you are talking about but the shorter the distance the power has to travel the more power makes it to where it is going which is why installing relays makes a slight difference to the amount of light that is put out. on my 81 there is about a 0.6v drop in voltage between the battery and headlights with the truck off and when you give that light full power from the battery you can see a noticeable difference. i would guess the lmc kit is just a plug and play relay kit.
yes as well as bigger and better contact points for current to cross in a relay than a switch...
I installed that harness right after I had to replace my headlight switch. No more issues for me. I can't really comment on if the headlights are brighter... the aftermarket headlights I have are plenty bright as it is so I didn't really notice a difference.
I have a quick questions for those who instaled the LMC headlight harness, after instaling the harness do the headlights still turn on with the pull switch?
