Loud whistling noise
This is my first post ever on here, but I've been on here a lot just looking at problems, performance mods etc.
Anyway, not to long ago, my pickup started making this really loud whistling noise. It goes away when I accelerate, sounds like an vacuum leak but I've sprayed some WD-40 around some places, mainly intake since the plenum was fixed a couple months ago, figured they would be the first gaskets to go out. My mileage has stayed the same, but it does seem a LITTLE but sluggish sometimes.
Appreciate all the help
Matt

If you like the whistling sound. Take your throttle body off, cut the air horns off and bore the top of the bottleneck down a little bit
Check your airhat gasket and make sure the airhat is properly placed and secure

its probably a cracked vac hose. does it do while idling?
if so, here's the easy way. one at a time - disconnect (and plug) each one at the manifold and see which one stops the whistle, then follow it.
most likely candidates are cruise control under battery. vent controls on passenger side, pcv, brake booster, evap system.

Someone installed a turbo while you slept.
Use something a bit more volatile like carb cleaner, starting fluid, or brake cleaner. It may not be a big enough leak at idle for WD-40 to do anything as it is barely flammable.

Haha thanks guys, I'll have to try those tomorrow and see what I can come up with...wouldn't mind a turbocharger showing up though...lol

Is the guy sitting next to you whistling? at least it aint a pig going wwwweeeeeeeee! If there is a real vacuum leak & not just a loose air hat, you can get a propane torch on but not lit, hold it around the hoses & see what make the rpm raise then you know what hose is leaky.
there is also a gasket between the TB and air cleaner that tends to get lost or damaged. avail at all parts stores for $1-2.
on the idea of spraying chemicals around the engine bay and the idea that it gets sucked in - and somehow causes the engine to run faster or slower.... I've tried that a hundred times and NEVER gotten it to work.
i've tried carb cleaner, starting fluid, etc. all it's ever accomplished for me is to make a mess and waste time.
