Default Going downhill.. Vibration?

Yesterday I did the pinion seal (closest to the front yoke for the front driveshaft) however I needed a new u-joint so I left the driveshaft out of the truck. while driving i was coming down a hill and my floor shifter for my 4wd began to vibrate and sounded like gears grinding? I thought that maybe I had left the truck in 4wd and because there was no driveshaft the truck kicked it out of 4wd and it didnt do it anymore..

Today I put the driveshaft back in, i was coming down the same hill when it did it again. this time i paid more attention to the shifter and it seems as though it is trying to put itself into 4wd while going down hill, if i accelerate heavy it also moves forward..

anything? LOL

Drop the rear driveshaft, and tailshaft housing on the t-case, see if the snap ring is still there.

Also check fluid level...

ok fluid is fine, well.. could use changed but its full. today i pulled into a parking lot, put it in reverse and immediately it started making this grinding noise and the floor shifter shakes back and forth rapidly.. put it in N, fine, back to reverse, same thing. put it in 4hi, then in reverse, and fine. snap ring make sense still? im wondering if the threaded rod going from the tcase to shifter linkage could solve this, seeing as its completely smooth at the moment, maybe if i replace it and make it a bit longer it will stop it from moving? any other ideas?

well, have a broken tranny mount, looks like its lifting enough to move my floor shifter ahead/back.. removed the rod from shifter to tcase and havent heard the grinding noise, going to fix the tranny mount (hopefully) tomorrow and see if that fixes the issue. fingers crossed for not being my tcase lol

just to clear this thread up, it wasnt the tranny mount, guess i just got my hopes up!

sent the transfer case to a mechanic, he took it apart and found something had been grinding against the shift fork.

tcase is alive
