I have a 96 Dodge ram 1500 5.9 4x4 I recently did a motor swap with a 98 5.9 motor and It cranks but only gets spark to half the cyclinders an won't start what should I check has new crank sensor an fuel pump
When did you install the sensor? If it was before you put the motor in, you need to check it, and see if you didn't mess it up during the motor swap..... If you put it in afterwards, what brand did you get?
Might want to check all the grounds too. And what was wrong with the original motor and it's symptoms before you did the swap? And did you swap to the original intake manifold?
Other motor had a cracked block when I was about to install the new motor I installed the new crank sensor I've ran new grounds also also new cap an rotor with torque converter
Put the sensor in before installing the motor? Ooopsie. I would pull it, and see if it got damaged. (at least you know where it is...... I can't even SEE mine....)

That, and the intake is different. At least the temp sensors.
On the 96, the two wire sensor is for the PCM, the one wire sensor is for the gauge in the dash. On the newer trucks, the PCM suggests to the Central Timer Module what the temp gauge should display, so, it doesn't use the one wire sensor. On your truck, without the one wire sensor hooked up, your temp gauge won't work. That's it. PCM still gets all the info it needs from the two-wire.
If you aren't getting spark on four cylinders..... I would look real hard at crank sensor, and/or cap/rotor.
Okay so should I switch out the intakes ? Or what an I got it starting for like 3 seconds an it keeps dieing off what should I.check the gas in it is very old could.that be why its chugging then dieing
