timing chain help

i already had the chain off when i 1st did it they were dot to dot and put it back on that way and wont idle and pinged i was told to put it on compression stroke on # 1 but when i do timing mark is at top on the cam gear the rotor is pointing to # 1 like this if i put the marks like they should it will be its on the exhaust stroke and rotor is at # 6

Something is wrong. However, you really should have had your own Haynes manual in the first place. But going plug n play style might work.

OMG, not another one. Timing chain is easy as hell if you do it right to begin with.(per a Haynes or the FSM) Tear into blindly and good freakin luck. With tc cover off, rotate crank until dots line up on OEM gears,(doesn't matter what piston is where) remove said gears. And replace with new ones. Replace seal and cover. Done. If you rotated the cam or crank , time to start over. (before damage is done)
