Default 1999 Ram 1500 5.2L OBD2 Problems

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and a new dodge ram owner. I just bought a pretty well used 1999 ram 1500 5.2l all stock with a 5 spd tranny. To say the least she is a beast! The truck definitely has been drove alot. There is a number of things that I need to fix. First is to replace the plenum pan and gasket (parts on order from hughes engine). I have already done most of the front end parts and had it aligned.
While I am waiting for a plenum parts I am getting the interior set up and I have a Scan Gauge II and when I plug it into my OBD2 connection the Scan Gauge it doesn't get any power nothing comes on on it. The gauge works because when I plug it into my other truck it works fine. Just wondering where I should start with to trouble shoot this problem?

Also is there any other maintanence that should be done on these trucks with higher mileage?

Thanks everyone

Grab the 01 service manual from the faq section here. Look at the wiring diagrams for the OBD port, and figger out which one should have 12 volts with key on. Make sure that it actually does.....

How many miles on the truck? 2 or 4 wheel drive?

Welcome to DF.

(and to beat zman to the punch, you should put your trucks info into your sig. )

Thanks for the response heyyou! My truck is a 4x4 with 160,000 miles on it.
I will look at the wiring diagrams today but wiring isnt really my best thing haha. Do you think if could be as simple as just a blown fuse

I suspect that the fuse for that also has other stuff on it...... so, don't hold your breath. Wouldn't hurt to check 'em though.

So I checked all of the fuses and none of them were blown, (I was wishing it was that, dang). Also looking for a wiring diagram that has the OBD2 in it in the service manual and I can't really find anything in the 2000+ pages lol. So if anyone has an idea of the page # that would be great!

On a side note I fixed the play in my steering box, use to be horrible going down the road then is saw the DIY thread for adjusting it and I must say it is 100x times better to drive my truck now, just need to balance these 33's and fix a few minor squeaks and it will be smooth like the Viper haha.

Did you check all the fuses in the PDC also?

According to the 98 service manual, it is pin #16 (lower far right). Pink wire. And it is powered from the IOD fuse. Which is #12 in the side of the dash. It's the one with the special plastic cap.

Thanks that was the problem, blown fuse there. I never pulled that fuse before cause of that special retaining cap but it was blown.
Thanks again!

Glad I could help. Now next time don't say you checked "ALL" the fuses.
