If it came out black then I'd say the gasket is leaking or you are pulling oil on through the pcv valve or both. When I changed my plenum plate and gasket it wasn't "blown" but I still had a whole LOT of oil in there.

yes, sucks either way but after i fix this misfire issue truck will be up for sale. bouht an 01 cummins

Did you replace the cap ? I had this same issue , as soon as it warmed up it started backfiring , and would do it between shifts .

i'm gunna do that today i guess. where can i get a brass cap? i only have autozone and advanced auto. Maybe a carquest carrys it

Advance or Carquest, just look at it when you buy. Or ask what brand they sell and search the internet for that brand. I know a Standard Motor Products and a Borg-Warner should both be brass.

Ok thanks. I'll have to do that then. I get 40% off at carquest..i replaced the coil with a duralast one i belive about 6 months ago. i took it off and measured the readings and they were low compared to book. Thinking about replacing.

Stay away from DuraCrap as much as possible.

i never knew this,but then again i think i forget that the market no longer has anythong quality no matter how much you pay for it.
