Default Park Pawlease...

Hey guys, got an 02 ram 4x4 quad with the 5.9 and what i believe is the 46re trans. Am having problems with the truck going into park and actually "parking", it keeps rolling if i'm on an incline and i can hear small clicks coming from the trans. Suspect the park pawl. It goes into every other gear and seems to shift through all just fine. I've checked and adjusted the linkage so i know it's not that. When i shifted manually at the trans lever i could feel it click clearly into every detent but park didn't feel quite as clean as the rest. I've read many forums but am trying to figure out the best route from here and what damage will be caused if i continue to drive it in this condition.
Help please...

Drop the pan, and have a look...... something might be loose/sloppy inside. (change the filter while you are in there....) ATF +4 only to refill please. (and check fluid level in neutral, not park.)

I would recommend checking the external linkage before opeining it up. There is an adjustment on it and a slight amount can leep the pawl from setting.

I have already checked the linkage and even when i shift the lever on the trans by hand into park position (all the way rearward towards back) it still wont engage the park pawl. I'm going to attempt dropping the pan next weekend, it's a pretty messy job right?

Also once the trans gets warmed up, like if driving outta town or hauling a trailer, i notice a vibration (prob not best way to discribe it, feels more like maybe clutch plates slipping) when accelerating from a stop. Doesn't feel like it's slipping tho cuz it hooks up and goes, and i know it's not u joints. I feel confident it doing the work myself but not very good at diagnosing to know what to fix.

Drop the pan, and see what you find, yes, it can be a bit messy.... Make sure you use ATF +4 to fill it back up again.

How many miles on the truck??

The truck has 180k. Somebody mentioned to me today about it possibly having to do with the lock up clutch. and that that may also be that shuttering i'm having when accelerating from a stop.

I am assuming that he was referring to torque converter lock up. Can you get a scanner that will read live tranny data?

TC only locks in third, or O/D.
