Default 2001 Off-Road Edition Tow ratings??

Hey guys

I've been browsing around the net looking for tow ratings on the Off-Road edition
Found in my factory manual the 3.55/3.92 gear trucks get 7,250-7,500 lbs

Some info on the forums/net put the 4.10 gears in the Off-Road edition at
8,500-9,000 lbs
Is that correct for Max tow ratings, anyone confirm these numbers??

Appreciate the input

Thanks guys

I wouldn't imagine that the tow ratings for a truck with 4.10 gears would be that much different than a truck with 3.92 gears as the 4.10 gears on the ORC were used to compensate for the larger tires. The ORC's had 33's as opposed to the regular Rams 31 in tall tires.

the ORE's had 32's just like all other rams, just larger rims. 265/70/17 is what they came with.

What does the sticker on the door jamb say for GVWR? The numbers you are referring too are with a manual tranny. Automatics are not gear specific according to a 98 owners manual. Just a GVWR difference.

Sure, there is a MAX tow rating, but when you do that, you will need a brake assisted trailer. When I am towing/hauling only 3K lbs, braking gets dicey and I really need to stand on the brakes. Since I do not tow, but once every year or so, I am really not used to giving more time to brake. But if you need to emergency stop and you are hauling 5K with no brake assist...you will get the blood pressure up.

4:10s wont make a huge difference, if any. This may help give an idea though: http://dodgeram.info/2001/towing-charts.html

Max tow ratings is just how much weight you have the nades to haul around with the crappy braking system and sometimes sketchy tranny

i wouldnt be afraid to haul 10k pounds with my truck. i have the proper braking setup, and when adjusted properly works amazingly well. granted id be WAY overweight, but id also be using a weight distribution setup. its all about knowing the proper way to tow.

yeah sure, the transmissions are crappy, as well as the horrible braking system, but its all about the driver, and having the proper towing setup....
