Default Regearing to 4.56

I have a 1999 ram 4x4 with the 5.9 liter. Currently the truck sits on 315/75r16 with a 3 inch lift. I purchased the truck like this not realizing about having to change gears for larger tires. Currently I have 3.55 and want to change to 4.56 so here is my question, I want to regear to take the stress off the Tranny but I can only afford to do one axle right now. do you think it would be alright to regear just the rear axle a few months before I regeared the front so long as I do not use 4 wheel drive?

Sure! Remove the front driveshaft if you're worried about accidently shifting into 4wd and you'll be fine

That would be perfect just in case somebody else drove the truck not knowing about the different gearing front and back. Removing the driveshaft won't affect anything in the transfer case?

Nope. T-case won't care at all.

Why do today what you can put off indefinitely?

I don't want the $600 in parts to rust together

Awesome, that is what I will do then. Would 4.56 with the 35 inch tires be alright for towing? I wouldn't tow very often and if I did it would be about 2500 pounds max.

Would be fine. Keeps engine rpm pretty much where it was with the stock tires, and 3.55 gears.

I tow huge loads with 35" tires and 4.56 gears. You won't have any problems with that light of a load
