Default Opinions 360 rebuild time

Hey DF, I have been searching for a while but I havent found a whole lot to go with...

Where's the best place to find rebuild kits online?

I found pre built 360's online for ~$2100 with shipping, how much can I save by doing the rebuild myself?

Which parts of the rebuild can I do on jack stands without pulling the whole motor out? (I don't own an engine stand)

All the help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Darn you, 2X1972! That made me go to this link....http://www.precisionengine.com/rebui...nes/index.html ......and look down at the bottome of the page....and think that would be nice with a Mega Viper!

It is difficult to do a good rebuild with engine in the truck. If you have any cylinder work or anything else, it need to come out anyway. Engine stand can be found on craigslist pretty cheap sometimes. May be able to rent one. But to do it right, it is easier and better to pull it.

At this point I'm not 100% positive if it needs to be completely torn down...

Would a compression test verify good cylinders and rings?

As of now I want to replace main and rod bearings and kind of wond ering if I should just do the complete overhaul since Im not planning on reselling in the near future

Do a compression test - dry and wet to see what shape the cylinders are in. Crank on a V8 is pretty hard from underneath, but I have heard of it being done. I have done a couple 6 cylinders before a long time ago.

What is your oil pressure like? Is that why you are wanting to do crank and rod bearings?

Yep.. long story short(er)

I bought the truck last week from a dishonest mechanic. Oil pressure gauge drops to zero when the rpm's drop below 8-900. Only happens at operating temp. Good pressure until then. Verified with a mechanical gauge. Replaced oil, filter, and pump last week and some "engine restore" and the symptoms didnt change...

I got a pretty good phuckin' on the deal
