looking into getting gears, need help
Randy's Ring and Pinion. Quad4x4.com, couple other places. Yukon gears are the gears of choice for a lotta folks. Check around, and see what prices are like. Check your local stores as well.
I have Yukon gears. I 4x4 mainly in the sand and LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE them. When I was still running the 3.55's I had to keep in 4lo in order to drive in the sand and it was really scary, heart racing, blood pumping, praying that I don't get stuck and have to dig out. After the new grears (and performa rebuilt trans) I rock it easy in the sand in 4hi. This is with no locker or posi unit just an open diff. Although I am getting a power trax no slip. In my D44 up front I went with thicker gears so I wouldn't have to change out the carrier. I do not plan to put a locker or posi unit up front. Where I 4x4 on the Padre Island National Seashore ( http://www.nps.gov/pais/index.htm ) here we have a 60 mile stretch of beach perfect for some serious off-roading. The need to maneuver quickly to the right and left is a must because of debris that floats in like huge fu***ng trees. I have had friends in the past that have had lockers in the front and they broke front end components maneuvering like that at speeds of 25 mph or so.
All in all you will be very happy with 4.56'ers! I am running 315 75 r16 BFGR AT-TA's and are 34.6 or something close to that.
