By looking in the 01 service manual(free download) and or a Haynes. (you should have both). And you'll need a descent inch pound toque wrench.

The service manual is great. I keep a printed copy in the garage (wireless won't reach out there) and a copy of the tranny section under my coffee table (yeah, I know - hear it from the wife all the time...)

Torque specs are on page 533. Band adjustment begins on page 539. At least print the table of contents and go to the page you need and print as needed. The transmission section is very thourough and manuals such as Haynes and Chiltons usually do not address much about auto trannys other than changing fluid and filter.

If you do not have a set of good torque wrenches, it will be problematic as you continue to work on your Ram. Need a good 1/4" and 3/8" at least. Haven't needed the 1/2" drive yet.....yet....

And zman is correct, as usual. Pan bolts 13 ft. lbs.

i think its a torx head, probably #25.

atf trans service is easy, just messy. atf fluid level is above the top of the pan, so when you loosen the bolts and crack the seal, it will shower on all sides. get the biggest pan you can find, maybe even a shallow rubbermaid type that's bigger than the trans pan. loosen the pan bolt one end about 1/4 inch. about 1/8 inch on the other end. smack the pan with a rubber hammer. let it drain down.

now here's the trick.. move the drain pan aside and slide a floor jack under the pan. jack the pan back up against the case. not tight, jus enough to hold it in place. remove all pan bolts. place drain pan next to jack. now with 3 hands, hold pan steady and lower jack. tilt into drain pan.

place pan back under trans when removing filter. there'll be another shower of fluid behind it.

use brake cleaner or kerosene, or gas(careful) to clean the inside of the pan. install a drain plug or replace pan with with one that has a drain for easier future installs.

if you don't have an inch pound torque wrench leave the bands alone.

also - if the fluid hasn't been changed regularly, change it a second time in about 1 or 2 or 3 weeks.
