Default Tranny Questions

Hey i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9L 4x4 and i am thinking about changing my trans fluid and changing the pressure sensor and solenoid due to my tranny shifting hard i think it is happing between 3rd to 4th. also i was wondering where the magnet is located so i can clean that off as well when i am doing it. Does anyone have any suggestion or comments cause this is new to me also a few people are telling me not to do anything with the fluid or anything cause it will mess it up even more cause its not used to running on brand new fluids i dont know it just doesnt make sense to me thanks in advance for the help

The magnet is in the pan. And you'll serve your self well by downloading the 01 service manual from the FAQ/DIY section. Only use ATF+4 tranny fluid.

Magnet is in the bottom of the pan. The governor solenoid and pressure sensor are bolted to bottolm of valve body. Use only ATF+4. Check level while in neutral only.

If you are replacing solenoid, use the Borg Warner. About $50, but better than OEM. What you do not want to do is a flush. Change filter also, and do not overtighten pan bolts putting it back on.

(zman is beating me by about a minute today....grrrr....)

A local tranny shop might have the BW solenoid. And if I remember correctly, the pan bolts are 13 ft lbs. And btw, at the bottom of your post you'll see and edit button. If you use it, you don't have to make a new post if you forget to add something to the previous one. Heres a website to purchase that a member recently posted. http://www.doghousediesel.com/catalog/i307.html

Well if it needs rebuild, the solenoid can be cleaned and reused. You should get one of these too btw.
