Default 96 ram electrical

ok as is known I'm rebuilding my 96 ram, well I'm having a couple electrical problems,
first I have to pull the headlight switch between positions for the park lights to work ( have tried multiple headlight switches and a new connector) but then the overhead light inside the cab will come on and the buzzer, and also that's the only time the radio will work does any body have any idea where I should start looking I'v checked the iod fuse and replaced it for good measure. and also the shifter wont budge in any form or fashion shifter is on the column. truck will start and I have headlights and gauges

Grab the 96 service manual, and start scopin' wiring diagrams. Manual is available for download in the FAQ section.

Verify the wires are going to the correct pins on the connectors for the headlight switch... sounds like something is funky there.

I am confused on the park light issue though. They work in the first click on the headlight switch, but, not on the second? (when the headlights come on.)

And multiple switches did that? That seems truly strange, as it sounds for all the world like a mechanical problem with the switch itself.

Bizarre.

Have you removed a kicker panel from under the steering column & noticed any build up of dust & silt? Does the carpet smell funny up close? Multiple wiring issues usually point to a truck that has been under water. that can cause tons of issues. I hope I am wrong here.

That parking light issue sounds to me to be a mechanical problem with the switch. That is the only thing that will cause it to work in between positions. That action is completely mechanical and with the buzzer make me think switch. As for the radio only working then sounds to me like you have a short somewhere in the harness. As for the shifter, not a clue into that one, unless the linkage is jammed up somewhere.

Sounds like you pinched some wires somewhere.

A friend of mine did that to bis ram. Ignition switch would crank the truck, turn the horn on, and the wipers/washers on.
