This WHOLE project has been a nightmare I swear but I'm going to see this thru till I've got it out on the trails again.

I haven't had a chance to tare this engine apart yet but after looking a little more and then doing some research it would appear that this engine was made between 94-96 since it has a EGR valve on it. I know for me this doesn't make any difference since I just want the block. But nice to know a little history of the engine/vehicle if possible.

Finally got to work on the new engine. Started taking it apart and other than not getting regularly oil changes it looked OK.
Typical blown plenum gasket....
Cylinders look OK and both heads looked good. I couldn't see any obvious cracks in them either.
I'll get it torn down the rest of the way today or tomorrow when it isn't raining.
Hopefully I can take it over to the machine shop on Monday.
What a mess. Had to tare it apart in the bed of my truck since I can't get to my garage due to my Jeep being in the way.

When you obtain your next block, I'd be sure to inspect and prep the block before taking it to the machine shop. This includes de-burring the block for things that might chip off and get into the engine, in addition to opening up the main bearing oil passages with a long drill bit as mentioned in the small block oiling tips. The attached photo with the areas outlined in 'yellow' is one of the areas that should be de-burred with a die grinder and carbide cutter/stone. Personally, I also knock out all of the block freeze plugs and dig all of the accumulated muck from around the cylinders to help with cooling. While this can be left to the machine shop, I do it myself to ensure it's not left to chance.

It's been a FEW since I'd posted and part of that was because I was on a road trip. A while back I'd come across a 1997 TJ that had a 5.7 Hemi installed in it with a bad transmission that was For Sale. But at the time the seller wanted more for it than I was willing to pay.
After about 2 months the seller contacted me and said he'd sell it to me for $3K.... I can't buy just the parts to do a Hemi swap on my TJ for that price. So I made plans to drive to AZ and pick up this rig.
Hey DUDE it's got a Hemi... From when I can figure out it's a 2005 Hemi & a 545RFE transmission. I already picked up a used transmission.

Think I would be doing an electric fan conversion in pretty short order though.

The radiator from the Magnum works for the Hemi too so yes it'll be getting an electric fan. The only thing I've got to do is get a 3/8" bung welded onto the radiator just below the upper neck for the temperature sensor. I've got to get my garage straightened up and then I can start on this swap.
