Beeker,
If you want to borrow the logger I could loan it to you. Then all you would need to buy is the wide band O2 sensor. Unless you are wanting to have it for other times.

I spent the afternoon in the garage getting all the stuff ready to go to the machine shop.

New harmonic balancer.

Here are the new total seal rings. The only one that is any different than standard rings is the top. So that is the only one I took pictures of.

This is the top ring and the inner ring that makes it a gapless ring.

Here is the rings put together. Picture #1 top side of ring. Picture #2 bottom side of ring.

Container with the bolts for the flex plate & harmonic balancer. Got to love ARP stuff.

Now I have a question for all the guys who know more than me. Which is just about everyone.............................. Don't these weights mean that this is a internally balanced crank?

If it is a internally balanced crank then I think we have a problem Huston.

The shop that built the short block for Derick made a mistake? Some didn't pay attention? Or they balanced the crank with this flex plate that has weights on it. Might explain some of his issues he had with the engine.

Here is the crank. I would think if this was a Scat or Eagle crank there would be something saying so on the crank.

I tried searching using this number and it doesn't come up with anything.

So tomorrow I am going to get the engine and parts loaded into truck.

That indicates the crank has been balanced at some point at least...... Is it internally balanced? That's a very good question...... Do any of the manufacturers make an internally balance stroker kit??

Thanks, I really appreciate the offer. I plan on leaving the unit installed permanently.
I found on Ebay for only $236, icludes the 3832 OT-2 wifi, digital LC-2 O2 controller, and wideband O2 sensor, gonna go ahead and buy it.
I finally found the manual for the Logworks software here
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/s...ks3_Manual.pdf

Might want to save it and read it when you have time. There's a PC version that comes with the OT-2 wifi, and there's also a mobile version for Apple devices.

HeyYou,
All the cranks I have looked at show they are internally balanced. So no I can't say 100% for sure but I have not seen one that wasn't. So I really think they "F" up and didn't take the weights off the flex plate.

Yep I found that too after a lot of searching. I need to do some reading.
I lucked out and found my ex-wife's old iPhone 4 but it was locked because we didn't know the pass code. Well I was finally able to get it unlocked. So I now have a iPhone to use for my data logging.

I suspect that your spinning assembly was internally balanced, based on the weight added to the crank. You can use a 5.2 flexplate, which doesn't have the weights, however, you will need to also have a harmonic balancer that is for an internally balancer small block, too. If it were me, I'd take the spinning assembly (crank, rods, pistons, flexplate and balancer to a machine shop to at least have the balance checked out.

Atomic,
The aftermarket harmonic balancer I bought is for both types of engines. I already pulled the weights out of it. I am going to drill the welds on the weights on the flex plate tomorrow and take them off.
And yes if you look at all the pictures I just posted the rotating assemybly is going to the machine shop to have the balance checked. Not just because of the crank and not knowing but also because of the new piston and just for GP. It is $225 I didn't want to spend but better to be sure than to put it all together and then find out something isn't right.

Wildman, thanks for the info on the balancer. Wasn't aware that it did double-duty. I'll keep it in mind when I start on my 408 build. Glad you're going to get the balance issue checked out.

Atomic,

Here is the harmonic balancer I bought; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pfs-80012
