what year does the cracking dash problem end at?
Insignificant - I guess if you don't care that it rattles, squeaks, and loooks like crap...OK. And I am old enough I can pretty much make any comparison I choose.
Don't recall any reference to bad gearhead, but pride in one's ride and one's work is also not insignifcant.
I'd rather spend my money on Scotch...makes replacing the dash more fun!

Agree to disagree. Or as my grandfather always put it "smile and nod"
No one was worked up until you were.
lol I just believe in fixing an issue right the first time and not covering up the issue...I like my truck looking good and nice inside it...I don't like jerry rig fixes that turn the truck into a POS...fix it right the first time and you have a nice rig...cover it up and you have a polished turd.
I have done some temp fixes on my truck, but I have always gone back and done the fix right when I could afford it. There's not really any 1/2 *** jobs done on my truck. I did a temp return fuel line till I had the time/patience to replace the entire return fuel line (which is sitting in my shop waiting for me to go out there and install it), got new fuel canister instead of drilling into the tank to put in a bandaid draw straw...my seats are just starting to wear out, so when an actual hole gets through the leather, I'm going to have the seats professionally recovered in new leather. This is how high mileage trucks still look brand new inside and out...you fix them right. and I'm not looking at it like man if i put this money into the truck, when I sell it I will loose money..f-that. I have no intention to sell me truck...ever! I will drive it and fix it till it can no longer be driven and fixed...

ahhhh....really? another iggy listee....
im not sure what or who a/an iggy listee is, but that last comment i made was purely a joke. apparently some people need to lighten up.
I stand corrected. After reading all the work that gdstock is doing to his truck i could see and completely understand why he would rather fix the dash and not just "cover it with some carpet".

actually it is a big deal and a big issue for dodge they really should pay for everyones dash to be fixed but they wont.a dash covers wont stop the cracks it will still crack more and fall in some have had headlights go off on them cause of the dash falling in and breaking wires.I agree with everyone fix it right get a new dash or dash cap.2nd gen are nice looking trucks why not fix them?unless you think its not worth it like some others.
I have a 2005 Ram bought new and the defroster vent fell into the ductwork and the dash has cracked. Always covered with a windshield sunscreen. Truck looks like new (because I take care of it) so I'm one of those that will not cover it with a towel.
Dodge will not do crap about it, actually, they wanted to charge me $85 for the dealership to look at it. Anyone that thinks that is ok, obviously works for Dodge.
