trouble with timing i believe

Default trouble with timing i believe

i have just rebuilt the top half of my 5.9 1500 and i believe im having timing issues. it consumes an absurd amout of gas and it shakes hard around 37mph i have never done timing myself before but i have got a timing gun and need some assistsnce please if anybody can help me out i would appreciate it. thanks

This should be moved to the Tech Section. What did you do to the distributor when you rebuilt the top half? From what I understand the distributor itself controls injector timing and not spark timing, so turning it won't change the timing unless you really get drastic... Someone will be along to confirm or set me straight

Correct, on multiple counts.

First thing that needs to happen (if you actually removed the dist) is get fuel sync reset. Need a scanner that will read that bit of data to do it properly though.

When you had the intake off, did you address the plenum gasket?

What size tires ya running, and what gears? (still stock?)

Moving this to the tech section as well.

And that can be done at the dealership or any competent mechanic with the appropriate hardware. If you go to a shop and ask to have the fuel sync set and they don't know what you're talking about, say "Thanks" and walk back to the truck and leave.....

And maybe a little informatrion on waht was wrong origninally and what you did to it. Maybe should have looked HERE first.... Let us know and maybe we can helop you get it back to where it needs to be.

And +2 on teh fuel synch thing.....and walking away quickly if the say, "Huh?"

I never removed the distributor it shook like this when i bought it i knew it had a bad valve in it so i got the heads redone and back together now i keep having it still shake violently and the absurd comsuming of fuel

Did you do anything about the plenum while the intake was off?

Still need to know what size tires, and what gears you have.

Blown plenum, clogged cat and bad o2 sensors.

I agree with the Amanda check out those problems , try removing the precat 02 sensor, see if it breathes any better
