46RE trans
I have a 1996 Ram 1500 I bought from my Son, It was having tranny issues, sticking in 1st till very high rpms, having to start out by manually putting it in 1st,mainly very hard upshifting,a shop told him his codes read,solonoid/sensor bad,So I installed a "Master Solonoid kit#22420AKP" from Cascade transmission parts,It drove perfect for 3-4 mi. then started slipping on acceleration, then finally stopped any forward or reverse movement. shift lever in any position it acts like neutral. also sometimes at idle it whines, sounds just like a power steering pump thjat's low on fluid.I read the owners manual and it said use Mopar atf plus or Mercon or Dextron III,I used Mercon III. Hopefullly your Gents can help me out.** Thanks, Mike
welcome to DF.
it sounds like you are low on fluid. how much did you put in? it'll take about 5-6 quarts to fill it up, and as said, you have to check the fluid in neutral, not park.
next - i think you've got the wrong fluid in it. it should be mopar atf+3 (superseded by atf+4), not dexron.

I replaced all the senors in my 96 and I run cynthetic tranny fluid but it was doing the same thang yours is doing I did have to have the tranny rebuilt though to because I lost 1st and OD if u have it rebuilt cut the check valve out its on the line right there running in to the radiator
Thanks for the info, I've been out of town a couple weeks, gonna work on it soon. Thanks for the reply, Mike
